The purpose of the Database Administrator is to support the Database Team Manager in the provision of Database related services to my Clients Managed Services customers.



In conjunction with the rest of the team and under the supervision of the Team Manager, the Senior Administrator is responsible for the timely action of customer service requests, within agreed service levels. The Senior Database Administrator is also responsible for the accurate and timely updating of all customer documentation.



The Senior Database Administrator will operate under the guidelines of pre-defined processes and procedures and is expected to ensure effective and professional communication with all relevant parties.

Administration of Infrastructure Management tools

Ensure processes and procedures are in place to monitor and report database availability for all relevant clients

Ensure database and database log back ups for all client databases thus enabling recoverability

Escalate any issues / deficiencies / service improvement opportunities to the Team Manager

Ensure Database Administration Manual documentation for all client databases are up to date and available to the client on demand

Ensure all checks of client databases are done and checklists are updated daily

Liaise with 2^nd and 3^rd level support where required to ensure timely resolution within agreed SLA levels for customer issues

Perform database installations under the guidance of the Team Manager

Ensure clear communication exists within the team

Maintain and exceed awareness of relevant technologies within the database sphere

Provide technical and administrative assistance to colleagues as required

Promote and verify team members understanding of customer accounts

Identify improvements/changes to standardise procedures to improve efficiency within the team

Assist the Database Team Manager in maintaining operations, morale and motivation by using all means at their disposal

Specific Skills ideally required by our client:

IT related tertiary qualification(s)

Very strong MS-SQL operational skills, standalone, clustered and replication configurations.

Minimum of two to three years ‘hands on' commercial experience with of, MS SQL Server & ideally MS SharePoint.

Any exposure to DB2, Oracle but not a must.

Preferable MCDBA / OCP certifications

Ability to review complex Database environments and determine necessary steps to bring the RDBMS under management

Ability to perform technical database reviews and performance analysis

Ability to perform Database upgrades, migrations and manage associated risks and expectations

Sound knowledge of backup, recovery and MTTR of relevant database technologies

Experience with one or more database management tools
