Recruitment is not just a job, it’s a career

Recruitment is not simply a sales job, it requires finely tuned skills to develop and nurture key relationships. There is a structured career path, and those who are most successful are able to move into a managing consultant role or beyond. In fact, some of our Directors have moved up the career ladder from Recruitment Consultant very quickly. At Greythorn, every employee has a comprehensive career development plan to ensure our employees learn, improve and become successful.

There are few jobs where you can start working in a new industry and within 12 months have the potential to earn the same as someone who has been there for 10 years. Recruitment offers this where many other jobs do not. There are no limits to your earning potential and for many, it is highly lucrative. Greythorn provide an industry leading commission scheme for our consultants and many of our consultants earn six figures, with our top performers earning $250,000+!

Autonomous – you manage your day

Recruitment offers the flexibility and variety to manage your day to achieve the best outcomes. From interviewing candidates, to meeting with clients, analysing new trends and writing job adverts, every day you are interacting with new people. You will be stretched and challenged, but supported every step of the way. You will gain a great sense of job satisfaction from managing your own workload and managing your own desk. Greythorn’s specialist model means that you will become an expert in the niche you operate in, you will be the go-to person for your clients and candidates, building yourself a reputation as a thought-leader in the industry and ultimately, becoming a trusted partner for your customers.

Competitive

There is nothing like a challenge and targets to hit to keep you motivated. The rewards for doing so are limitless. Sales competitions keep the environment fun and exciting, recent rewards have included a trip to Hong Kong, Las Vegas and San Francisco for our top performers. There’s a monthly lunch club for high performers, quarterly awards and regular competitions which give you the chance to win team days out of the office.

Culture

Energetic, fun, driven, supportive...these are just some of the adjectives that describe our culture. Recruitment is known for the dynamic and interesting people it attracts and the social aspect is second to none.

In a nutshell, recruitment consultants are the conduit between clients (employers that are hiring) and candidates (job seekers). Whilst at its core, it is a sales-related job, recruitment offers a lot of benefits that other sales jobs do not.

You will undertake business development – winning new business, getting to know clients - their business and recruitment needs. Sometimes that means they just want to recruit one role, other times it’s a large scale recruitment project. You advise, you assist and you create a strategy for finding them their next employee.

A large part of the day will be spent talking to job seekers. These may be passive (not currently looking for a job) or they may be actively job hunting. Or it may be screening applicants from a job you’ve advertised on social media or the internet. You’ll be required to interview them, match them against the client’s requirements and liaise with the client on why you feel they are a good match. You will provide a shortlist to the client and provide your expertise in negotiating salary and rate.

You may need to present to clients on market trends or provide career advice to job seekers. The support you receive from your manager, your team and the infrastructure teams will ensure you have all the tools you need to succeed.

Attitude, attitude, attitude! The most important attribute you can have is a good positive attitude; you need to be willing to learn and motivated to succeed.

“Greythorn has been a very easy organisation to fit in with. The whole workforce has welcomed me openly both professionally and socially. One of the main elements that I enjoy in my job is the culture – the office is very sociable and there is always friendly banter flying around, no matter how busy we are, which makes a big difference when you are this far away from home. My team has a great dynamic where we all help, motivate and support each other.”
